The Boat

M V GRINGLEY was built as a working barge in 1904 by J S Watson of Gainsborough and is one of only 3 remaining Lincoln Keels in the country. She was initially owned by Furely & Co. Limited of Kingston upon Hull and used as a cargo carrier, primarily carrying grain between the river Trent and Hull.   She is a Registered National Historic Ship (see http://www.nationalhistoricships.org.uk/register/2267/gringley), and  was converted to become a house boat in 1970 in Beverly. She moved to York in the 1980's where she is still moored.

Gringley was made of hand riveted 9 mm plate steel as a sail barge and converted to a motor vessel in 1955.  We have her original paper work from the 1955 register of shipping.  The BMC engine is being reconditioned and the boat will be sold with a working engine. The gear box, propshaft and prop are all still in, as is the original gypsy chain steerage.

The Hull
:
Out of water hull survey in 2008.   Small amounts of steel patching work and rivet filling.  Survey concluded hull was in excellent condition for her age (average thickness on the waterline still 8mm). We have lots of photos and can provide a copy of the survey on request.
